Changed or Lost Your Phone?
How to update your MFA when you have a new phone or no longer have access to your old one.
If you have a new phone, you need to update your MFA (multi-factor authentication) settings. Your old phone's Authenticator app or SMS number will no longer be accepted for sign-in once you switch.
Which situation applies to you?
Good news — as long as your old phone is still working, you can do this yourself without contacting IT.
Step 1 — Sign in using your old phone one last time
- On your computer, go to aka.ms/mysecurityinfo and sign in with your Rotary email address and password.
- When asked to approve the sign-in, use your old phone to complete the MFA check — enter the 2-digit number shown on screen into the Authenticator app, or enter the SMS code.
Step 2 — Add your new phone as a sign-in method
- On the Security Info page, click "+ Add sign-in method".
- Select Authenticator app (recommended) or Phone for SMS.
- Follow the on-screen steps to set up the Authenticator app on your new phone, or enter your new mobile number. This is the same process as Step 3 of the initial setup guide.
Step 3 — Remove your old phone
- Back on the Security Info page, find the entry for your old phone or old Authenticator app.
- Click Delete next to it and confirm.
- You are done. Sign-in will now use your new phone for MFA.
Without access to your old phone, you cannot bypass MFA yourself. The Rotary District 9660 IT Team needs to reset your account first, after which you can set up your new phone.
What to do
-
Email the Rotary District 9660 IT Team at support@rotary9660.org.au and include:
- Your full name
- Your Rotary email address
- That you no longer have access to your old phone
- Your new phone number (if using SMS) or that you need to re-register the Authenticator app
- The IT team will reset your MFA and let you know when it is done. This usually takes one business day.
- Once reset, go to aka.ms/mysecurityinfo and follow the MFA setup guide to add your new phone.
Why can't IT reset it over the phone? For your security, the IT team will never reset MFA without verifying your identity. Email is the safest way to do this with an audit trail.
