Change Your Password

Step 2 of 3 — Replace your temporary password with a secure personal one.

After you sign in for the first time, Microsoft displays an "Update your password" screen. You cannot skip this step. Your temporary password will stop working once you set a new one.

Password requirements

Your new password must meet all of the following:

  • At least 8 characters long (12 or more is strongly recommended)
  • At least one uppercase letter (A–Z)
  • At least one lowercase letter (a–z)
  • At least one number (0–9)
  • At least one symbol (e.g. ! @ # $ % & *)
  • Must not be the same as your previous or temporary password
  • Must not contain your name or date of birth
Tip — use a passphrase: A phrase made of 3–4 random words is easy to remember and very hard to crack. Example: Koala-Sunset-42-River!

How to change your password

  1. On the "Update your password" screen, enter your current temporary password in the Current password field.
  2. Enter your new password in the New password field, making sure it meets all requirements above.
  3. Type the same new password again in the Confirm password field. Both fields must match exactly.
  4. Click Sign in or Update password to save.
  5. Microsoft may ask for extra security information. Continue through any prompts — you will set up MFA fully in Step 3.
You can also change your password at any time by going to aka.ms/mysecurityinfo and selecting Password.
Keep your password private. The Rotary District 9660 IT Team will never ask for your password. Do not share it with anyone.
